Ukrainian folk fashion

The book UKRAINIAN FOLK FASHION delves into the multifaceted world of traditional Ukrainian clothing. The photos taken by the famous photographer Anna Senik, who is the founder of the direction of Ukrainian ethnophotography, show clothes from nine ethnographic regions of Ukraine. 

Two more chapters of the book are devoted to Ukrainian embroidery and jewelry. Anna’s photo sessions resemble the visual storyboards of an epochal historical film, professionally captured on camera. Anna always tries to make all the images as authentic as possible, enlists the help of the best specialists: ethnographers, collectors, museum workers.

In order to provide the readers with the most reliable historical information, we invited the outstanding Ukrainian ethnographer Yurii Melnychuk to cooperate on the publication, who wrote deep meaningful texts and professional explanations about the geographical location of each region and the peculiarities of its clothing, embroidery and jewelry. And this makes the book doubly valuable – in addition to the fact that it is a unique, absolutely first modern visual guide to the traditional folk clothing of Ukrainians, it is also a full-fledged historical guide.
