Voices of the Magi

This work explores the popular Catholic musical ensembles of southeastern Brazil known as Folias de Reis (companions of kings). Focusing on urban folias, Suzel Ana Reily shows how participants use the ritual journeys and musical performance to create sacred spheres set apart from the everyday.
