King crab fisherman Fox Thornton has a reputation as a sexy, carefree flirt. Everyone knows he’s a guaranteed good time—in bed and out—and that’s exactly how he prefers it. Until he meets Hannah Bellinger. She’s immune to his charm and looks, but she seems to enjoy his… personality? And wants to be friends? Bizarre. But he likes her too much to risk a fling, so platonic pals it is.

Now, Hannah's in town for work, crashing in Fox’s spare bedroom. She knows he’s a notorious ladies’ man, but they’re definitely just friends. In fact, she's nursing a hopeless crush on a colleague and Fox is just the person to help with her lackluster love life. Armed with a few tips from Westport’s resident Casanova, Hannah sets out to catch her coworker’s eye… yet the more time she spends with Fox, the more she wants him instead. As the line between friendship and flirtation begins to blur, Hannah can't deny she loves everything about Fox, but she refuses to be another notch on his bedpost.

Living with his best friend should have been easy. Except now she’s walking around in a towel, sleeping right across the hall, and Fox is fantasizing about waking up next to her for the rest of his life and… and… man overboard! He’s fallen for her, hook, line, and sinker. Helping her flirt with another guy is pure torture, but maybe if Fox can tackle his inner demons and show Hannah he’s all in, she'll choose him instead?

This is the second book in the series, and it’s about Hannah — the younger sister with a rare gift: she can pick the perfect song for any moment, mood, or place. Music is her language, her way of expressing emotion.

The story begins with Hannah exchanging messages with Fox — her brother-in-law’s best friend and second-in-command. Fox is a charming ladies’ man who believes that being a flirt is in his DNA, inherited from his father who cheated on his mother. But after Hannah leaves town, he realizes how much he misses her. He stops going to Seattle to blow off steam — now, he lives for their conversations.

Hannah works in the film industry as an assistant director (and thinks she’s in love with her boss). She does all the dirty work and can’t gather the courage to ask for a promotion. At one point, she suggests filming their next project in Westport — the perfect location for the script. So, the team heads there.

Since her sister and Brandon are hosting his parents during that time, Hannah ends up staying at Fox’s place.

And that’s when the tension kicks in.

They try so hard to resist each other. There’s longing, jealousy, teasing — but also the fear of ruining a good friendship. Their connection is more than just flirting. It’s real. And you can feel it.

What impressed me most was Hannah’s wisdom. She’s emotionally mature, grounded, and brave enough to talk about feelings instead of running from them. She sees through Fox’s walls. She knows when he says certain things, it’s just fear talking — not the truth. That really hit me. It made me think about how often we take words at face value when sometimes, they’re just masks for deeper insecurities.

This is probably the first romcom I’ve read that doesn’t rely on the usual “chase and avoid” trope. There’s no dramatic miscommunication. Just two people learning to be honest.

And I have to mention the spicy scenes — they’re written so tastefully. The author nails the vibe, full of tension and tiny details that make the chemistry between them feel real and intimate without ever crossing into vulgarity.

One more thing that touched me deeply — the author shares in the beginning that she wrote this book during a hard time, when her husband was very sick. But the book doesn’t feel rushed or hollow. It’s full of heart, well-thought-out, and rich in emotion. For that — I’m truly grateful.
