Contemporary Sacred Art

The book "Contemporary Sacred Art | Contemporary sacred art" is a project beyond time and borders, without geographical, gender and age boundaries. A combination of religion, the spiritual and the earthly, heritage and absolutely stunning modern art. Our edition is an interpretation of ancient rich traditions, historical visual forms in the context of modern culture. The book contains a wide selection of works by talented Ukrainian artists in various styles and techniques. Nowadays, artists use various means in icon painting - from tempera on a board to textiles and works on glass. Ancient sacred themes and motifs of folk art are combined with unusual color palettes and a modern artistic vision that inspires the heart and delights the eye.

Some of these icons, real works of art, show the influence of traditional Ukrainian-Byzantine church art, others have modern iconographic features. We brought together traditionalists and modern icon painters in one project; most of the participants graduated from the Department of Sacred Art of the Lviv National Academy of Arts. Modern icon painting created today in Ukraine is a completely unique cultural product with recognizable characteristic features, but its scale and significance are not sufficiently known and appreciated both in the country itself and in the world. Our project aims to fix this. The publication was created together with the contemporary sacred art gallery in Lviv ICONART.
